What is a Rain Garden?
A rain garden is a landscaped area planted with native flowers, shrubs, and grasses that captures stormwater runoff from roofs, driveways, and streets. Instead of letting polluted runoff go straight into storm drains, rain gardens naturally filter the water, recharge groundwater, and reduce pollution to our rivers and lakes.

About the Classes
-
Rain Garden 101: A short introduction to rain gardens, perfect if you’re curious and want to learn the basics.

-
Master Rain Gardener Certification: A more in-depth, multi-session course where you’ll design your own rain garden, connect with local experts, and complete a capstone project. Graduates receive a certificate and become part of a growing network of Master Rain Gardeners across the watershed.
Past Classes
We’ve hosted successful Master Rain Gardener courses in Adrian, Manchester, and Tecumseh, with dozens of graduates who are now leaders in creating beautiful, water-friendly landscapes in their communities.
Lydia Lopez became a fully certified Master Rain Gardener in spring of 2024. Her background in Environmental Science and her work with the River Raisin Watershed Council provide her with insights into the water quality issues of the Great Lakes region.
