In-Hive Beekeeping Series​

with Master Beekeeper Janet Tucker

Ready to get hands-on in the hive?​ Join Master Beekeeper Janet Tucker for this interactive, in-hive beekeeping series designed for beginner to intermediate beekeepers looking to build confidence and real-world skills. Each session takes place directly in the apiary, offering the opportunity to observe, ask questions, and actively participate in hive management.

Understand when and how to split a colony and recognize early swarm warning signs.

June 13 – Queen Rearing
Explore when and how to raise queens and identify healthy development.

Kids Nature Camp 2026

​

Looking for a fun, hands-on way to get your child outdoors this summer?

​

Join the River Raisin Watershed Council for Kids Nature Camp in Petersburg and Milan, a free half-day outdoor camp designed to help kids connect with nature through exploration, discovery, and environmental learning.

​

Each day features a different nature-based theme filled with activities, games, outdoor learning, and hands-on experiences.

​​

Monday, June 22
All About Fish - Learn about local fish species, aquatic habitats, and what lives beneath the surface.

Tuesday, June 23
Exploring Indigenous Land & Life - Discover Indigenous perspectives, relationships to land, and connections to the natural world.

Wednesday, June 24
Plants & Pollinators - Explore native plants, pollinators, and the important role they play in healthy.

​

Thursday, June 25
Macroinvertebrates & Water Quality - Become a stream scientist and investigate tiny aquatic creatures that help us understand water health.

Space is limited to 18 kids per day.

Registration is required and spots are limited.

Master Rain Gardener Course

​

Join the River Raisin Watershed Council for our Master Rain Gardener Course! A hands-on, multi-week program focused on reducing stormwater runoff and improving local water quality.

Participants will learn how to design and install their own rain garden while gaining a deeper understanding of how everyday actions can positively impact our watershed.

​

This 5-week course meets Thursdays on August 20, August 27, September 3, September 10 and September 17. With no prior experience is needed. This course is open to anyone interested in sustainable landscaping, water stewardship, or learning something new.​

​

5:30 – 7:30 PM
$95 per person
, which includes a Master Rain Gardener t-shirt and yard sign upon completion.​

Nature Narratives​

Join us for our monthly Nature Narratives Book Club as we read Nature's Best Hope by Douglas W. Tallamy

​

This bestselling book explores how small actions, like planting native species and creating habitat in our own yards, can help restore biodiversity and support birds, pollinators, and wildlife. Tallamy shows how everyday landscapes can become powerful tools for conservation.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities

Looking to make a difference? Join us for hands-on volunteer opportunities that support the health of the River Raisin watershed.

Bug ID Day

​

Join the River Raisin Watershed Council’s Adopt-A-Stream program as we head into local streams to collect aquatic macroinvertebrates, also known as river “bugs.” These tiny organisms help us understand the health of our watershed and provide valuable data about water quality throughout the River Raisin.

 

After collection, join us at our Tecumseh office to sort and identify what we found!
